Hello all and a very happy Sunday to you once again!
This week has been a brilliantly overwhelming one for me, I hope yours was just as productive. Anyway, as it is Sunday once again, here is some inspiration for you straight from my Tumblr- enjoy!
Hello all and a very happy Saturday to you! Today I want to share with you my love for Harley Weir, the young Central Saint Martins grad who is taking the world of fashion photography by storm.
Weir taught herself photography at university, experimenting with film and collage. Weir has said that her primary goal with her work is to move people, and she does this incredibly well. Her intimate, risqué and youth-focused photography is rich in its depiction of its subject, which is often the human form and features. I find myself staring at her images for long periods of time, completely absorbed by the use of colour, the softness of lighting, the subject and the emotion captured within each piece.
Harley has seen amazing success in the last couple of years, shooting campaigns and lookbooks for major labels such as Céline, Stella McCartney and Jacquemus. Her fashion editorials have also been featured in AnOther Magazine, British Vogue, CR Fashion Book, Dazed and Confused, i-D and Arena Homme+.
So Harley Weir is definitely one to watch within the world of fashion!
Here are some of my favourite shots of hers below, be inspired!
Weir recently shot the very successful Calvin Klein campaign!
Today I'd like to share with you a fashion icon straight out of the 60's that you may have heard of.
Actress Miss Anna Karina has had a lasting impact on the fashion world, although perhaps not as well known as her fellow French 60's It-Girls, Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Denueve.
Anna Karina created a fresh and very French girlish persona and style for herself that still resonates with designers and tastemakers worldwide (Alexa Chung notes Karina as one of her inspirations).
knee-length skirts, button-down shirts and cardigans in bright red, blue, yellow and green
sun dresses and tennis dresses with long socks
simple leather ballet pumps, dolly-style shoes, or low black heels
girly dresses with collars, frills and buttons
checks, tartan and stripes
Accessories:
straw or cotton tote bags
brightly coloured tights
army caps, boating/captain hats, beach hats
Hair:
long, straight and shoulder length
fringe
low pig-tails, pony-tail
low maintenance
Make-up:
winged thick eyeliner
rosy pink or peach lip
blue eyeshadow or natural lids
fresh, minimal make-up and a dewy finish
Designers such as Marni, Lacoste, Agnes B and Marc Jacobs all channel Karina's style today, and on the high street, Topshop and H&M would be the place to look for Karina-inspired clothing and accessories.
So this September M.I.A released her much anticipated album, A.I.M on the world- and it hasn't disappointed.
I've been a fan of M.I.A since her 'Paper Planes' days and have always loved how individual her style and sound is. She sticks to whatever the hell she wants to channel, and I love that. It makes her incomparable to anybody else on the music scene at the moment, in my opinion.
M.I.A has also put her foot down recently about something that many of us don't really think about when we show our appreciation for an artist we love, by donning a t-shirt with their name on it.
In recent tweets, she addressed the fact that she doesn't condone getting factory workers to slave away printing and producing her merch.
"I think we promote the idea of fashion and a mentality to wear it once and throw it away and I think it's all too fast and not sustainable" - M.I.A
So she came up with an idea to provide the vector (design file) for her merch on her website, where her fans could then download it and print it onto their own garments however they like.
designs such as this can be downloaded by fans
I love this idea, and think that it's not only super sustainable but allows for a whole lot more creativity. We could see fans printing M.I.A logos onto jackets, shirts, even dresses, which really widens the scope of what 'merch' attire can look like.
gone are the days of generic printed gildan and fruit-of-the-loom t-shirts sold at £30 up? who knows?
check out M.I.A's new album, you won't be disappointed!
Here is her video to accompany the track, 'Borders'- enjoy...
