Hello all and a very happy Saturday to you!
Today I'd like to share with you a fashion icon straight out of the 60's that you may have heard of.
Actress Miss Anna Karina has had a lasting impact on the fashion world, although perhaps not as well known as her fellow French 60's It-Girls, Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Denueve.
Anna Karina created a fresh and very French girlish persona and style for herself that still resonates with designers and tastemakers worldwide (Alexa Chung notes Karina as one of her inspirations).
A cheat sheet to owning Karina's style today:
Attitude: girlish, playful, vulnerable, vibrant, artistic
Clothes:
- colour-blocking
- knee-length skirts, button-down shirts and cardigans in bright red, blue, yellow and green
- sun dresses and tennis dresses with long socks
- simple leather ballet pumps, dolly-style shoes, or low black heels
- girly dresses with collars, frills and buttons
- checks, tartan and stripes
Accessories:
- straw or cotton tote bags
- brightly coloured tights
- army caps, boating/captain hats, beach hats
Hair:
- winged thick eyeliner
- rosy pink or peach lip
- blue eyeshadow or natural lids
- fresh, minimal make-up and a dewy finish
Designers such as Marni, Lacoste, Agnes B and Marc Jacobs all channel Karina's style today, and on the high street, Topshop and H&M would be the place to look for Karina-inspired clothing and accessories.
