Key Pieces: Zara: July/August

Hello all, today's post is a different kind than usual. A big fan of Zara for many years, I feel their most recent collection has been their strongest in quite a while. For today's post, I decided to do a round-up of the key pieces that have caught my eye when browsing on their website's 'new in' category, to share with you guys!

Enjoy and let me know what you think!

Check out these pieces at www.zara.com/uk

Wrap Culottes £29.99
beautifully cut, almost looking like a tailored midi-skirt,
these culottes are both unusual and very very chic.

Long Shiny Dress £49.99
this one is an eye-catcher, a perfect piece for both day and
night and in keeping with the recent trend for slip dresses.

Limited Edition Bomber Jacket £99.99
you can almost already tell this jacket is going to be a
favourite amongst bloggers; so beautifully detailed and eye-catching.
I love how it's a silk bomber as it just catches the light beautifully.

Cropped Bootcut Jeans £39.99
cropped bootcuts are definitely on my wishlist this season.
They look fantastic with ankle boots or mules and the patches
on these ones really give off a fun, individual vibe.

Low-rise Patch Jeans £39.99
the coolest patches and a great, flattering fit.

Checked Dress £49.99
one of my favourites, so classic and feminine.

Printed Top with Knot £19.99
this piece caught my eye because it was so unusual,
but so very chic looking.

Embroidered Poplin Shirt £29.99
another of my favourites, beautifully embroidered and eye-catching.

Printed Bodysuit £25.99
it was the gorgeous silk fabric of this bodysuit that really caught my eye.
The dusky pearly pink silk sheen to it is to to die for.

Strappy Dress £29.99
like a denim pinafore with a twist. Definitely on my wishlist.

Leather Slides with Strap £39.99
the shoes of the season, so versatile, comfortable
and a bargain at this price.

All You Need Is (self) Love

Hello all, hope you are all having a marvellous week. This week I decided to try out a different type of blog post, centred on a topic that affects our lives day in and day out. Self love, self confidence and self reliance are all life skills that appear ideal in what they describe. To love ourselves completely equals boundless happiness and success, right? Well, these life skills are all important, but they sometimes appear as if things that we can only acquire over time and with experience. The world we live in today arguably can make things more difficult, with some people never acquiring these skills whilst others face great difficulty in trying to acquire them. As a 19 (almost 20) year old young woman, it has recently come to my attention in the last few months where I have faced difficulties within my personal life, just how beneficial and in many ways, vital, it has been for me to acquire a sense of self love and self reliance to get me through and solve these difficulties.

So, at the age of 19, what have I learnt so far?
  1. don't expect praise or support from anyone; learn to praise yourself and recognise your own achievements no matter how small they may seem
  2. realise your talents and skills and don't be afraid to celebrate them
  3. understand that life is for living, not for observing so if you want to do something, go out and do it
  4. don't rely on friends or acquaintances for company all the time
  5. don't be fearful to go alone
  6. don't be fearful to raise your voice and stick up for yourself. Stay polite but don't be a doormat
  7. learn to look at experiences in your past for what they actually were, not what they seemed at the time, and learn from them
  8. appreciate your own beauty and qualities without comparing to others, or discrediting others
  9. don't let a lack of approval put you off something you are passionate about, if it makes you happy and you're doing it for the right reasons, keep going
  10. appreciate and love those that are consistently there for you
  11. don't feel obliged to hold on to anybody, any job, any hobby or any item that no longer makes you happy, satisfys you, challenges you or is going to guide you towards your future

POP By Stella McCartney (short film)

Stella McCartney's first video campaign for her new 'Pop' fragrance features some of the coolest young women of the moment; Grimes, Lourdes Leon, Amandla Stenberg and Kenya Kinski-Jones.

The newly-released 60-second clip, shot by director Melina Matsoukas must be one of the coolest, freshest perfume campaigns in recent years (in my opinion, anyway).

So why is it so cool?

Well, noticeably absent from the campaign is the stereotypical iconography of perfume advertisement, i.e. dark, tall strangers in a brooding romantic plot line with smouldering gazes between man and woman. McCartney's campaign is much more a celebration of individuality, with no two of the young women starring in the campaign sharing the same profession or even the same hair colour.

The narrative behind the campaign is a road-trip-meets-motel sleepover somewhere in the California desert. Dressed in pale pink slip dresses and lace tops, the cast have come together to swim, cruise and support each other as young women.

The creative, individually-styled foursome starring in the campaign wonderfully reflect the attitude McCartney hoped for her new, tube rose and sandalwood scented fragrance to reflect, evoking the experience of finding your own voice, and the youth-quaking spirit of the new generation.

I'm obsessed- Check it out!

90's Style Crush- Liv Tyler

From her role in the 1995 cult favourite 'Empire Records', Liv Tyler has become one of the many young female icons of 90's style. The biggest fan of 90's style around, I am obsessed with the effortlessly cool attitude to fashion taken by the likes of Kate Moss and Tyler back in the day.

So how would I sum-up Tyler's iconic style? (hmmm)

  1. Full, baby-soft lips in natural rosy pink shades
  2. Gloriously effortless centre-parted, thick brunette hair
  3. Fair complexion with rosy cheeks and natural-looking make-up
  4. Simple cropped t- shirts
  5. Beaded choker necklaces (with pendants)
  6. A-line denim or tweed skirts (button-ups)
  7. Mary-Janes or Chuck Taylor High-tops
  8. Long socks
  9. Soft cropped cashmere jumpers
Here are a few of my favourite snaps of Liv back in the day,

Enjoy!
